PTY Lighting Gives Back – Our New Charitable Giving Initiative

PTY Lighting Gives Back – Our New Charitable Giving Initiative

Short Overviews

PTY Lighting cares about the community, and that is why we are excited to be launching our new charitable giving initiative!

This fundraising initiative for worthy charities is our way to give back to the community. The great thing is, our customers can participate easily and effortlessly. Here’s how it works.

Participating in PTY Lighting’s New Charitable Giving Initiative Is Easy!

As a customer, we want you to feel like you are getting the best value for your money. In part, we do this through providing the best quality custom lighting in the industry. We also do this through our superior customer service and knowledgeable hospitality lighting experts.

Our charitable giving initiative is yet another way for us to help provide value. We help others, and you feel good and we feel good! It’s a win/win/win all around!

What’s not to like?

The good news is, you don’t need to do anything to participate. Well, almost anything. The one thing you do need to do is to let us know which charity you want to select from our pre-vetted list of charitable organizations, foundations, and fundraising events.

Once you select your charitable cause, and we have the post purchase order received, we will donate 1% of the final order price to charity as a 50/50 donation from us and you, the customer.

This does not add anything extra to your bill. In other words, we are not passing on any additional costs to you, our valued customer. We are simply dedicated to taking some of our profits and investing it back into our community. In part, this is a “thank you” for all of the invisible support we have received throughout the years, support that has enabled us, PTY Lighting, to be a top provider in the competitive hospitality lighting business for 30 years.

Examples of What We Support Through Our Charitable Giving Initiative

PTY Lighting takes great pride in our charitable giving. Here are just some of the worthy causes we support:

Wounded Warrior Project

The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit charity that helps our veterans through a variety of programs. The diverse programs offered include mental wellness, physical wellness, career and VA Benefits counseling, and personal independence support.

For example, during the 2018 Christmas holiday, the Wounded Warrior Project partnered with Chicago businesses, fire departments, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to host a day for Wounded Warriors and their families at the Brookfield Zoo. This event was a resounding success and helped veterans feel cared for and supported.

ISHP Benefit for Hollywood HEART

ISHP is the International Society of Hospitality Purchasers, and they host a yearly benefit for  Hollywood HEART. The word “HEART” stands for Hope, Education, Art, Recreation, and Therapy. This caring not-for-profit organization was founded in 1995 to provide support and services for children and youths who are directly impacted by HIV and AIDS. Through creative and therapeutic programs, affected kids can benefit from specialized emotional support, meet new friends, and learn fun new skills.

Hollywood HEART offers onsite camping programs for these kids. Unfortunately, the recent Woolsey Fire in Malibu completely destroyed the Hollywood HEART Malibu campsite. No one was injured in this fire, but now, that special campsite is gone forever.

For this reason, Hollywood HEART especially needs our support right now to fund a new kids’ campsite, which will entail considerable costs.

Bob’s Discount Golf Outing

Do you like golf? Then you will love this fun outdoor fundraiser! Bob’s Discount Golf Outing is a special charity event to raise money for non-profits supported by the Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation. This is a project of Bob’s Discount Furniture and has been going on for three decades!

The price to play in this tournament is a little bit more expensive than your average golf game, but when you get to play golf and raise money for charity at the same time, it is well worth it. This yearly event begins with a “shotgun start” and non-golfers can join in on the fun for food as well as join live and silent auctions.

Bob’s Golf Outing raised $635,000 for children’s charities in 2018 alone, and it has generated more than $7 million for worthy causes over 31 years. The nonprofits supported in 2018 include Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, Camp Rising Sun, Family & Children’s Aid, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, March of Dimes, and Cardinal Cushing Centers.

NEWH Student Scholarship Fund

NEWH is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to promote professional women in the hospitality industry. PTY Lighting is a member of the New York Chapter of NEWH and supports their scholarship drive.

NEWH has provided scholarships in excess of $6 million to more than 2,300 hospitality students with strong academic records who need monetary help.

How PTY Lighting Can Offer a 3 Year Custom Lighting Warranty

How PTY Lighting Can Offer a 3 Year Custom Lighting Warranty

Short Overviews

When considering your options for a custom lighting project, one of the most important things to review carefully is the custom lighting warranty.

We have many competitors in this business of custom lighting. Some of them do fine work, and on the surface, you may think that what we offer is simply comparable. (Hint: We’re better!)

One of the key things that make PTY Lighting stand apart from our competitors is our comprehensive lighting plating warranty.

Don’t Get Fooled by Flashy Photographs and Brand Names

During the sales cycle of a hospitality lighting project, a portfolio of previous custom lighting projects is often produced and reviewed. Sometimes, the temptation is to go with a particular lighting vendor because they had a particular brand name in their portfolio. Or, perhaps a specific set of colorful photographs caught the eye of the person in charge.

One of the biggest mistakes is to falsely assume that because a lighting vendor completed a job that looked similar to what is envisioned for the current project in question, that they are the ones most qualified to do the job.

Of course, lighting design is important. However, don’t mistakenly assume that only one competitor can complete a certain type of design.

PTY Lighting can work with any interior design team to come up with appropriate, unique styles based on your precise specifications. And, chances are, if you don’t see something similar to what you want on our website, we probably have done something “in the ballpark.” We have such a vast portfolio that putting everything up for public viewing online would be a daunting task!

And remember: The outward appearance of your custom restaurant or hotel lighting is just one aspect of it. How well does it work? Will it last? Does the company stand by its work?

This is where your lighting warranty comes in.

Why a Comprehensive Custom Lighting Warranty Is Very Important

When you launch a brand-new restaurant, hotel, or other public venue, especially one that is designed to be upscale and appealing to discerning customers, your lighting needs to work. It can’t just look good – it must function well, and consistently well.

Just because something looks good initially does not mean it will last long or wear well.

Consider the problem of fake designer watches and handbags. Sure, you could find many a street corner in New York City or Venice Beach, California where hucksters are selling imitation Rolex watches and fake Louis Vuitton handbags.

You might purchase one of these counterfeit items to save some money. In the short run, you would have what appeared to be a Rolex or a nice-looking designer purse.

You are likely to run into some problems down the road, if not right away. The watch may not work properly. It doesn’t keep the time well. And the purse was sewn with shoddy seams and the inner pockets rip easily.

The exteriors of these faux accessories may hold up for a little while, but then at some point (sooner than later), they will hit the end of their product lifecycle. The fake gold plating on the “Rolex” will start to chip and fall off. The exterior of the “Louis Vuitton” handbag will start to crack and the handle will fail.

This is not too dissimilar to what can happen to your hospitality lighting if it is poorly made. In particular, plating in lamps is typically one of the first things to break down. What you can end up with are lights that don’t work and look terrible.

Why We Can Offer Such a Great Lighting Warranty

Now, while we’re not saying that other lighting companies are providing “fake” designer lights, you have to consider the quality of the manufacturing.

PTY Lighting stands out from our competitors because we do all our hospitality lighting manufacturing in-house. Our competitors who do not have manufacturing facilities must outsource their lighting production.

Typically, plating is the first thing to break down and requires a warranty. We do our own plating ourselves at our manufacturing facility, which is why we can offer a fantastic 3-year warranty on our fixtures. Our lighting plating warranty cannot be beaten.

Why Customers Should Consider Us for Custom Restaurant Lighting Projects

Looking for lighting that looks good and lasts? PTY Lighting offers a comprehensive lighting warranty on all our custom work.

Beyond just design and engineering, PTY Lighting conducts our own hospitality lighting manufacturing with the latest production equipment. For these reasons and more, we are a top choice of top hospitality groups for bespoke custom lighting solutions.

Hotel Lighting Trends You Should Be Following

Hotel Lighting Trends You Should Be Following

Short Overviews

The hospitality industry is expansive. The hotel business is a huge consumer of energy, using a significant amount of lighting on a daily basis. Hoteliers are now finding more and more ways to be energy-efficient with their lighting. This is because a slight increase in energy efficiency can save thousands of dollars annually and improve your bottom line. There’s no reason for hotels to not get on board! New technologies are playing a big role in the industry. Here are some of the top industry trends for hotel lighting:

Efficient Lighting Technology

Even the most subtle lighting changes can make a huge difference in your energy savings. By replacing incandescent bulbs with LED light bulbs, you can save on energy costs as well as maintenance fees. Not only do these lights look aesthetically pleasing, but they can be a great way to shift to more energy-efficient lighting for your hotel. LED lights are by far the most popular right now because they are both energy-efficient and lightweight.

LEDs are very versatile since they are available in all sorts of shapes and sizes. They will not need to be hidden in design since they are not abnormally sized or unattractive. You can use LED in any design to add a modern touch while keeping it green and environmentally-friendly. The overall costs upfront will not compare to the long-term benefits of switching to LED light bulbs.

Sticking To Minimalism

Many places have shifted to the minimalistic and simple look. Consumers want to get the most for their money, and the shift to minimalism has been huge these days. Combine style, art, and sophistication into your lighting as well as your decor. You want to aim for an elegant look when you are decorating. Add lighting to darker spots that need a little brightening up. Keep it clean, but also keep it minimal.

There should be no distracting colors or designs that will take away from your overall scheme. It’s usually a good idea to opt for monotone white or yellow light without a design on the shade. Minimalism is a popular trend in this modern age that you will see throughout many hotels in the world today. This trend keeps your hotel looking sleek and well-lit since minimalism involves a lot of monochrome colors. Minimal lighting can give off a slick and modern look to a room. It can make the room feel bigger, more organized, and well put together.

Mobile Meeting Rooms

Some hoteliers may broaden their customer base by making their hotel spaces available for corporate use. Mobile meeting rooms are the new norm, and hotel owners are most definitely on board! It’s becoming increasingly common for workers not to have a single office to work in. Hotels should provide the basics like wifi, outlets in the lobby, and perhaps some rentable conference rooms.

These conference rooms may have interactive worktables, some type of screen, whiteboards, and anything else that you might find in a workplace. As long as it’s a place where a conference or work presentation can be held, it will function as a rentable corporate space. Lighting will also play a role in brightening this room up for work use and corporate functions.

How Hotel Lighting Has Psychological Benefits to Your Hotel

How Hotel Lighting Has Psychological Benefits to Your Hotel

Short Overviews

As soon as you walk into a room, the first thing you notice is the lighting. The lighting gives you the power to control the ambience of a room. In a hotel, this is critical.

When a guest walks into a hotel, what really matters to them and should also matter to you is the way the hotel makes them feel. The science behind the lighting and design may seem insignificant to them. However, it’s what makes your hotel stand out in the crowd. The job of a designer is usually a thankless one, but this individual is the one who can transform any old building into a masterpiece.

How Does Lighting Play a Role in Hotel Interior Design

The lights involved in a hospitality project can be divided into a few major categories:

Directional Lighting

A well-lit reception area is important to welcome your guests. When a guest steps into your hotel for the first time, he or she should know where to go and not feel lost. A brightly lit reception area helps them understand what to do next while also creating a warm and welcoming feeling. Directional lighting draws the attention of guests and guides them around.

Color Management

Lighting helps to either emphasize or detract from the distinct moods created by the hotel room’s color scheme. For instance, while a blue room may look warm and cheerful in the daylight, it can look gloomy at night. To counteract this effect, you can use warm lights. We must keep in mind that sunlight, which also contains high amounts of blue light, affects the circadian rhythm of the body, i.e., the biological mechanism that tells us when to be awake and when to sleep. Blue light is known to decrease the production of the melatonin hormone that helps us sleep, so it is better to avoid it in the setting.

LED Sources

LED lights are cheap, but they are known to have a lot of blue light too. So while installing them may save you a few bucks, they can compromise the comfort of your guests.

Subtle Illumination

A warm and indirect lighting can highlight certain corners of your hotel and create a relaxing atmosphere. For example, it can illuminate the little coffee table corner that gives your guests a cozy feel or even highlight the paintings and artifacts in your hotel.

Warm Lights

As mentioned before, warm lighting with a minimal amount of blue light can help your guests get a good night’s sleep. Recently, a lighting design firm Nulty created faux windows for a hotel that have no natural sunlight. A combination of warm and cool tones imitates daylight and brings depth to the window, while curved forms helped the eye relax by providing the illusion of depth. To induce natural awakening and sleep, a specific spectrum of light is used in the morning and evening.

The Types of Lights You Need In A Hotel:

General Lights: These lights that are set in the room and bathroom provide visibility and sets the mood too. You can place desk lamps or headboard lamps for reading in bed or working at the desk.

Mirror Lights: You can set bulbs around the mirror or a large light above it. For the bath, a warm and anti-glare light can be just fine.

Accent Lights: The primary purpose of these lights is to create an atmosphere.

Closet Lights: You can set lights either inside the closet or outside the closet directed towards the inside.

Night Lights: Subtle night lights that can help your guests navigate through the room are important. You can install lights under the bed or desks and even along the walls so that guests can move around the room without turning on bigger lights at night. It also makes them feel safe.

Light and Space

Proper lights can make an area appear larger than its actual size. This is especially applicable in the case of business and budget hotels where every bit of space is utilized. A cramped up space can make guests uncomfortable and feel stuffy. This can also make the hotel earn a bad name. Use lights intelligently to set things right, but remember these two pointers:

The color of the light: The lights that you install must be as close to natural light as possible in order to make the room feel airy and spacious.

Smart use of the lights: Install wall-mounted lights and avoid desk lamps and floor lamps to make space in the rooms.

Tips for Making Your Hotel Lighting More Energy-Efficient

If you are looking for ways to cut down on energy use in your establishment, there are a few efficient changes you can make to your lighting to save you energy costs and to become more efficient. Your lighting can make big difference in the number that turns up on your monthly bill. Here are some tips:

Custom LED Lighting

A well-lit hotel puts guests at ease. Bright inviting lights make a space seem clean, cared for, and trustworthy. You don’t have anything to hide. So, when trying to save energy with your lights, you don’t want to sacrifice any ambiance.

That’s why LEDs are perfect for you. LED light bulbs to produce more light for the amount of energy they use – about twice as much as a CFL, one of the most popular light sources on today’s market. So, you’ll never have to lose light for the sake of saving energy.

Lobby Lighting

When it comes to light quality, LEDs are the best and most efficient. LED light bulbs and light fixtures come in a variety of color temperatures from cool to warm. Save money and become more efficient by switching out as many lightbulbs out as you can.

Occupancy Sensors

If you have a larger hotel with a lot of staff and guests always coming and going, you might find yourself leaving lights on often. This can be a waste of energy and money. You may want to save money, but you don’t want guests to end up in dark hallways or busy staff to not be able to see what they’re doing, so you will want to install vacancy sensors.

Simply install them in any areas that will have high traffic areas that you don’t have time to constantly monitor. If you have hallways or conference rooms that get almost no natural light, you can set your sensor to detect when the light level drops to prevent waste of energy by running unnecessary lights again.

Dimmers

Adding dimmers to the rooms can help guests appreciate the little luxuries that come along with being able to choose the strength of their room lighting during their stay. Pillow mints, plush towels, room service, are great luxuries to have but the option to dim the lights should be a standard. Installing dimmers in your hotel rooms will let your guests relax, while also helping you save energy.

What to Consider When Looking at Hospitality Lighting

What to Consider When Looking at Hospitality Lighting

Short Overviews

What to Consider When Looking at Hospitality Lighting

Hotel lighting is quite an important but overlooked feature in hospitality. It can be the make or break for walk-ins and should be held to a higher standard as the costs associated with small mistakes can be rather high. Avoid mistakes and losing thousands of dollars, or even a lawsuit, by reading on:

Wattage and Efficiency Requirements
Most of the time, electrical engineers will plan energy requirements while planning switches and circuits. When a light replacement comes up, the change in power draw could cause huge problems like changes in electrical plans, delays and wasting money on connections you can’t use anymore. To avoid this, make sure to discuss with an electrical engineer before making any changes to plans.

Safety Standards
This is the most important part and should be the first priority. Sacrificing safety standards can really put your customers in danger and you will most likely fail inspection and have to reorder completely new lighting, which will cost a lot.

The following is a lighting guide to assist you in lighting up all hotels areas appropriately:

Lobby and Reception
These are the two spaces in which hotels welcome their guests for the first time, so it is important that they stand out. This space is where a hotel has the chance to really express its uniqueness as a brand through its architecture, design, and ambiance. It’s necessary to include flexible and controlled lighting options to create a specific atmosphere.

Restaurants and Conference Rooms
An open, striking design is particularly important in the dining and entertainment areas. Lighting must emphasize the event in some way or another, while also serving a wide range of purposes.

Hallways
Hallways will lead guests to their rooms so adjusted lighting can stop the hallways from looking like a tunnel and make the walk more inviting and safe for guests. Hotel owners must respect emergency lighting regulations and will need to be using the halls themselves as well as other staff, so adjusting lighting levels for their comfort to help them work better is also important.

Guest Rooms
Hotel rooms are for sleep, work, eating, relaxing and so much more. The lighting layout should reflect this variety of uses while giving guests options to meet most or all of these functions.
